Frequently Asked Questions
How does an electronic cigarette work?
The electronic cigarette (also known as an ‘e-cigarette’, ‘vape’ or ‘vaporiser’) is an electronic device which heats liquid to create a vapour – without combustion – which is then inhaled.
An electronic cigarette is typically composed of a battery and an atomiser, the latter being comprised of a resistor and a cotton wick (also known as a coil) soaked with the liquid to be vaporised.
The battery generates an electric current, often adjustable via a display screen or a button, which flows into the atomiser to reach the resistor; wound around a cotton wick impregnated with liquid, the resistor heats up and vaporises the liquid, producing vapour.
Our electronic cigarettes are ‘cartridge system’ devices (also known as ‘capsules’ or ‘pods’), meaning that the atomiser, resistor and cotton are contained within one single unit.
The two model variants designed by BO Vaping are ‘closed capsule’ devices (for which the capsules are pre-filled with liquid) such as the BO One and BO Plus, and ‘open-system’ devices (refillable by the user with any liquid of their choice), such as the BO Micro.
There are now many makes and models of electronic cigarettes of different configurations and features: you can discover our range of devices here.
What is the liquid vaporised in an e-cigarette?
The liquid to be vaporised, widely known as ‘e-liquid’ or ‘e-juice’, is typically made up of a mix of propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), water and different additives.
Vegetable glycerin creates vapour when heated, whilst propylene glycol helps bind additives within the liquid, allowing them to be vaporised also.
E-liquids can also be mixed with nicotine, CBD or other flavourings and aromas (tobacco, mint, fruit, sweets and cakes, ice cream, soda and candy flavourings).
Nicotine is most commonly added to e-liquids in its purified form, known as ‘base-nicotine’. Nicotine can, however, also be found in e-liquids in the form of ‘nicotine salts’, a form which is closer to its natural chemical state and which recreates the sensation of nicotine derived from a traditional tobacco cigarette.
E-liquids are most commonly sold in bottles of 10ml capacity (as is the case with BO E-Liquids), but we also produce a range of pre-filled e-liquid capsules known as BO Caps.
What do BO Vaping e-liquids contain?
The list of ingredients used in each e-liquid in our range is written on the e-liquid’s packaging and appears as such: <50% Propylene Glycol, <50% Vegetable Glycerin, water, natural and/or artificial flavourings.
E-liquids can also contain nicotine (available in a range of different strengths) or CBD, depending on which type of product you wish to vape.
All e-liquids made by BO Vaping and sold on our site comply with all regulations and recommendations of the French state. Our products are of pharmaceutical quality and are composed solely of high-quality ingredients widely used within the food industry.
Understandably, it is not possible for us to publish the exact list of flavourings used for reasons of confidentiality.
Can an e-cigarette help me stop smoking?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions surrounding e-cigarettes: can vaping aid in the fight against tobacco smoking?
On one hand, one must remember that the electronic cigarette is not recognised as a medicine (unlike nicotine patches and other smoking cessation products sold in pharmacies). However, vaping can help recreate the sensation of smoking a tobacco cigarette.
Having reached mass-distribution in approximately 2010, the electronic cigarette is only still in its infancy. It has not yet been recognised as a pharmaceutical product and it has not yet been conclusively proven that the electronic cigarette can aid with stopping smoking. That said, a great many people insist that with the help of an electronic cigarette they have succeeded in reducing their tobacco intake and have even stopped smoking tobacco entirely.
Is vaping hazardous and what are its effects on health?
A number of studies on the subject have reached contradictory conclusions, and the scientific community has not yet ruled definitively on the subject.
Whilst the use of nicotine in e-liquids can affect brain development, especially amongst those below the age of 25, the liquids vaporised contain none of the toxic substances found in regular tobacco cigarettes, such as tar and carbon monoxide.
Regarding the additives and flavourings, many are widely recognised as harmless within the agri-food industry, although few studies account for their effect on the body which inhaled. It is difficult therefore to speak conclusively on the subject in the absence of any long-term studies on the ingredients used and their effects when ingested through vaping.
A scientific consensus exists, however, that vaping is less harmful than tobacco smoking; conventional cigarettes have been proven to exhibit many toxic effects on human health.
A communiqué from the Académie de médecine française (French health academy) in 2015 states, “Even though it is difficult to quantify precisely the long-term toxicity of electronic cigarette use, evidently it is infinitely less than that of traditional cigarettes”.
Who can use an electronic cigarette?
Electronic cigarettes are designed to be used by adults over 18 years of age.
Pregnant women and those who suffer from heart problems should consult with their physician before starting vaping with nicotine or other substances.
People allergic to nicotine should only vape nicotine-free e-liquids.
What level of nicotine should I choose for my Bo Caps?
We advise starting with the highest nicotine level that you find comfortable so that you do not experience sudden nicotine withdrawal. You can then reduce the nicotine level of your chosen pods to reach your desired goal. If you are not already a tobacco smoker, you should not ingest nicotine.
What concentrations of nicotine and CBD are available?
Our products are available in three classic nicotine strengths: 0mg/ml (i.e. nicotine-free), 8mg/ml and 16ml/ml. We also offer a range of products that make use of nicotine salts; our nicotine salt products are available only in 20mg/ml nicotine concentration. BO Caps containing CBD contain 100mg of CBD per cap.
How long does one BO Caps/ one BO Micro Pod last?
On average, one BO Caps lasts a whole day (or 380 puffs); this may vary according to your particular vaping style and your chosen level of nicotine.
A BO Micro Pod can be refilled from between 5 to 10 times, however this may vary according to the type of e-liquid you use to refill your pod.
Should you find your consumption excessive when vaping with products containing nicotine, you may wish to switch to an e-liquid with a higher nicotine concentration to satisfy your nicotine cravings more rapidly and reduce your overall vaping frequency.
How long can you vape a fully charged Bo device?
BO One: a full charge allows one full day of vaping (equivalent to one pod)
BO Plus: a full charge allows 2-3 days of vaping (equivalent to 2-3 pods)
BO Micro: a full charge allows approximately 36 hours of vaping- roughly one and a half days of use (equivalent to slightly more than one pod)
Why is the light on my BO e-cigarette illuminated?
The LED lights up to give you information on your device.
The LED flashes once when a BO Caps or a BO Micro Pod is inserted.
When you vape, the LED illuminates to show the current battery level. The colour changes from blue (fully charged- more than 75%) to white (battery half full- between 75% and 25%) to red (battery empty- less than 25%).
The LED flashes during charging. Once charging is complete, the LED switches off. All you need to do is take a puff of your Bo device: if the LED lights up blue, charging is complete.
What do I need to do before using my BO vaporiser for the first time?
Charge your device for at least one hour using the charger provided, and a power adapter or your computer. Be sure to use a charger of 1A maximum- a more powerful charger could damage the battery.
When using a new pod, you may have to take several puffs before your BO functions perfectly. Try not to inhale too forcefully- this can cause droplets of liquid to collect inside the airway through which the vapour is directed.
How should I maintain my BO e-cigarette?
We recommend cleaning your e-cigarette regularly to keep it dry and to prevent and damage to the battery and the electrical circuits.
Store your BO e-cigarette in a cool, dry place and keep your battery away from heat sources (e.g. direct sunlight or a hot car in summer).
You should also avoid leaving your BO device upside down for any length of time (take care when putting it into your pocket). The BO device can be stored on its side without issue.
How should I clean my BO Vaping vaporiser?
Remove the pod from your BO e-cig and use a dry cotton swab to clean the base and sides of the area where you insert your BO Caps.
Turn the device over and press the cotton swab delicately around the metal contact points. Leave the swab there for a minute or two to absorb any liquid that might have collected there. Be careful not to press down hard on the metal contacts, as this may damage the battery.
What is the recommended charging method for a BO device?
You must use a charger of 1A maximum to recharge your device (for example the USB port on a computer). Using a charger more powerful than this can damage the battery. We advise against using a mobile phone charger as these also can damage the battery.
Never recharge your Bo device in environments where the temperature is below 0°C or above 40°C.
How to fix connection problems during charging?
First try turning your battery around 180° (opposite direction) in the charger to improve the contact between the charger and BO device.
We also recommend cleaning the connection points at the base of your BO device and those within the charger to ensure that they are clean and dry.
Why does the light on my device flash when I take a puff?
A flashing light indicates that the cartridge is not making contact with the battery. If this is the case, lightly adjust the contacts on the pod and the device so that they make contact.
Turning your BO Caps around by 180° (opposite direction) in the slot can help improve the connection.
This problem can also arise as a result of dust or liquid collecting within your BO device, preventing proper connection. In this case, clean your BO e-cigarette according to the ‘How should I clean my BO vaping vaporiser?’ section.
How to prevent e-liquid leaking from the device?
If your pods are stored upside down, e-liquid can escape and leack into the battery when they are turned the right way up, which risks damaging the battery.
Storing BO Caps in direct sunlight or high ambient temperatures can affect the viscosity of the e-liquid and lead to leakage, which can damage the battery.
When your BO device is not cleaned regularly, the connection between the battery and the BO Caps can fail, leading to leakage of e-liquid.
Why do I have e-liquid in my mouth/ on my lips when I take a puff?
When inhaling too strongly, e-liquid may not have time to be vaporised properly and can then re-condense as a liquid within the airflow of the device.
My device is firing automatically. What shall I do?
Remove the BO Caps and clean the interior of the device, following the instructions listed above in the section ‘How should I clean my BO vaping vaporiser?’. Be sure to clean any liquid that may have collected within the device.
Why do my BO Caps/ BO Micro Pods taste burnt?
Pods can take on a burnt taste when the cotton wick within has not been sufficiently primed with e-liquid.
Remove your cartridge from the battery and draw air through the hole, forcing e-liquid into the cotton. Be careful not to draw too strongly- this risks e-liquid getting into your mouth or onto your lips.
A burnt taste can also arise if bubbles form and pool within the pod at the base of the airflow. In this case, simply tap on the capsule lightly to burst the bubbles and allow the cotton to soak up the e-liquid.
A burnt taste can also indicate that your pod is empty. You can use a bright light (such as the torch on a mobile phone) to look through the pod and check how much e-liquid remains.
